What's on at the Wimborne Food Festival Literary Fringe Saturday 22 October

The Literary Fringe is located in Church House next to Wimborne Minster. Come and join us for a fantastic FREE programme of talk and walks.

Time Description
10am, 12pm & 2pm Guided tour of Wimborne Minster's Chained Library
Join our experts for entertaining talks on the content of some of the earliest books written on everything from food, winery, herbs, cures for battle wounds, demons, werewolves and vampires.

Ascend the spiral staircase built over 600 years ago and you find yourself in the old Treasury, which housed the wealth of the Minster, until it was confiscated by Henry VIII. The Library, founded in 1686 is the second largest Chained Library in the. It is home to a manuscript written on lambskin in 1343, a book bound for the Court of Henry VIII, an incunabula printed in 1495 on the works of St. Anselm, and a Paraphrase of Erasmus printed in 1522 with a title page designed by Holbein.
11am - 12pm Good Things to Eat
Lucas Hollweg will talk to Vivien East about his new book, which weaves together his recipes with personal memories, inspiration, gentle advice and the odd joke.
12.30pm - 1.30pm How Booze for free is made and was written
Andy Hamilton, author of Booze for free, will take us on a delicious journey from pine needle cordials to prison booze via elderberry port.
2.30pm - 3.30pm A Delicious Life
Josceline Dimbleby will talk to Vivien East about her new book covering her life of food and travel, Orchards in the Oasis.
4.30pm - 6pm A haunting walk through Wimborne's past
Malcolm Angel Wimborne's resident author recants spooky stories & shares with us a terrible link to a Victorian crime that still holds the world in its thrall. Join our ghost walk for a journey through the ancient street of Wimborne & discover the darker side of an ancient Market Town’s long and chequered history. Suitable for age 10+, children must be accompanied
